I was born and raised in Sofia, then spent several years in the Netherlands, studying, living and working there. When I moved back to Bulgaria, I started seeing my own city the way a visitor does. I noticed the bars at the bottom of unmarked staircases, the small restaurants that never advertise, the Roman streets under the metro and an easygoing pace I never found anywhere else.

Each guide is written for a first or second trip: what a place costs in euros, how long it takes, who it suits and when to skip it. Every guide carries the date it was last updated.

The city moves fast: bars close, fares change, a bakery changes hands and slips. When that happens the guide gets revised or the place comes out, which is what the UPDATED stamp on each guide tracks.
